Metabolic & bariatric care · Austin, South Austin & Cedar Park
Recovery & Life After Surgery.
Know the milestones, keep your instructions close, and give yourself room to recover.

The first days
Your care team checks hydration, pain control, movement and readiness for discharge. Follow your written instructions for fluids, medicines, wound care and walking. Have your discharge contact information available. Call for guidance when symptoms do not match the recovery plan.
Food, work and activity progress in stages
Move from liquids toward more varied textures only on the schedule provided for your procedure. Prioritize hydration and protein. Desk work, driving, lifting and exercise have different requirements; your surgeon clears each based on healing, medicines and job demands. Avoid comparing your pace with someone else’s.
Symptoms that should not wait
Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting or significant bleeding. Severe or worsening abdominal pain, repeated vomiting or inability to drink requires urgent evaluation. Contact the surgical team promptly for fever, increasing wound redness or other concerning changes. Portal messaging is not an emergency service.
Recovery becomes maintenance
Keep follow-up appointments and laboratory testing even when you feel well. As weight and health change, prescriptions may need adjustment by your clinician. Nutrition, muscle-preserving activity, sleep and long-term support help protect the progress you have made.
