Preparing for Bariatric Surgery.
Good preparation gives you a clearer start—and a more manageable recovery.
Complete your individual evaluation
Your surgeon may request laboratory tests, nutrition assessment, behavioral health evaluation, heart or lung review, endoscopy or other studies based on your health and procedure. Insurance may require additional documentation. Follow the checklist provided for you rather than another patient’s timeline.
Review every medication and supplement
Tell the team about prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbal products, blood thinners, diabetes treatment and GLP-1 medicines. Follow the specific instructions from your surgical and anesthesia teams about what to take or hold. Do not use a website to decide when to stop a prescribed medicine.
Prepare your home and routine
Arrange transportation and help during early recovery. Discuss work leave, lifting, childcare, sleep apnea equipment and your staged nutrition plan. Follow instructions about nicotine, alcohol, fasting and preoperative eating. Tell the team about illness or changes in health before the procedure.
Your next step
The life you want.
Let’s take the next step.
Meet your surgeon. Get answers about insurance and self-pay. Make a plan for your health—with a team that stays with you.
