Weight Loss Medications
Medications can be used to assist with weight loss when diet and exercise alone is ineffective. There are both short and long-term medications that can be prescribed individually or in combination with other medications. Medications are not used to replace diet and exercise, but are used in conjunction with diet and exercise. Medication choice is dependent upon the providers’ discretion and based on the patient’s medical history, current regime, and the patient’s personal history and experience with weight loss medications in the past.
Examples of medications prescribed are Phentermine, Lomaira, Topamax, Contrave, Qsymia and Belviq.
